Joint engineering glass project to block UV rays
Yacht glass manufacturer Trend Marine and boatbuilder Sealine are working together in a joint engineering project to block harmful rays from the sun.
Trend Marine claims to have developed a chemically toughened, laminated screen incorporating an interlayer that filters out 98 per cent of ultra-violet rays. Built at Trend’s manufacturing site in the UK, the new glass furnace enables the company to produce large double-curvature screens of up to 3.2m by 2.5m in size.
Mark Turner, supply chain director of Sealine International, says: “In this competitive yacht market, it’s additional features and benefits that our customers seek. The benefits of this market-leading research can be seen as better fabric life and lower heat transmission into cabins, which ultimately results in lower running costs and longevity with enhanced customer comfort.”
