DAME Design Award Charity
Each year the combined registration fees for the DAME Awards are donated to a nominated charity, as a way for the METSTRADE community to give something back to society. The METSTRADE Exhibition Committee selects a charity to receive the funds each year. This can be either a single charity or two charities. This year, the METSTRADE Exhibition Committee has decided that the DAME proceeds will be donated to the Blue Marine Foundation.
2021: Blue Marine Foundation - To Protect Our Ocean
Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) is working to restore the ocean to health by creating marine reserves, developing models of sustainable fishing and restoring vital marine habitats. BLUE’s mission is to see at least 30 per cent of the world’s ocean under effective protection by 2030 and the other 70 per cent managed in a responsible way.
BLUE will work with the Berwickshire Marine Reserve (BMR) to create voluntary codes of conduct for marine users to follow, that will be consistent with the protection of the marine life. These codes of conduct will be developed through hosting a series of marine user group workshops that will allow stakeholders to contribute and shape how the Reserve is safeguarded and managed. The workshops will include yacht skippers, recreational divers, rib cruise operators and recreational anglers, among others. In addition, recreational boat users will be trained through the national wise training scheme and become certified WiSe operators, ensuring minimal disturbance to marine wildlife. Furthermore, installation of two public notice boards plus guided rib tours, promoting marine wildlife and the codes of conduct.
