Last year’s Sustainability keynote at The Superyacht Forum focused on how the superyacht industry will chart its course to a regenerative sector in 2050 and highlighted steps already in place now.

Charting a course to 2050

Foiling has conquered a firm place in the sport, leisure and professional boating world. Guided by the Foiling Organisation, foiling skippers and event organisers urge for the global associations to adapt their policies and include the new segment. Quality standards, safety measures and navigational regulations should take account of the characteristics of sailing on hydrofoils. On the sport side of foiling, the new Foiling Cup is to be announced at METS in November.

Additive Manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is set to change the production process of boat propellers. Answering to developments in the marine industry like electrification of propulsion and hydrofoiling, this technique allows for specialised propellers to be produced at low cost and reduced use of material that can be optimised to meet the operational demands of any specific boat.

The hospitality sector of the marine industry works to provide easy digital access to the services that marinas provide. Boaters can book, use and pay for berths, fuel, water and all the other services using a simple app. For marina management, keeping track of berth availability and more, A.I. powered software platforms form the back end of the visitor apps. The next step is to integrate the variety of websites and apps into one platform, possibly even on the navigation screens of yachts.
