New categories announced for 2016 Boat Builder Awards

Two new award categories have been added to this year’s Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement in association with Raymarine, which is due to take place on November 16, the evening of the second day of the METSTRADE Show in Amsterdam. The Environmental Initiative Award, sponsored by Scott Bader, and the Best Apprenticeship and Training Scheme Award will join the six initial award categories to be presented once more at a gala dinner in the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.

In what promises to be another spectacular evening under the glittering dome of the National Maritime Museum’s historic courtyard, joint organisers IBI and METSTRADE are promising an even bigger and better event for 2016 to celebrate the innovators and pioneers in the business of boating “Both the environment and how we train and develop the next generation of boatbuilders are key to the global wellbeing of the recreational marine business,” explained IBI publishing director Nick Hopkinson. “We felt it only right that these two important agendas should be celebrated in their own right at these prestigious awards.”

Manager Maritime METSTRADE at RAI Amsterdam Irene Dros commented: "These two awards are about helping to safeguard the future of our industry. Minimising the environmental impact of our business is not just a moral obligation, but can make sound business sense too." Last year’s inaugural event, also headline sponsored by Raymarine, welcomed more than 200 guests who arrived via canal boats direct from the RAI exhibiton centre to enjoy a dinner themed around Dutch exploration accompanied by live music, all capped off by the awards ceremony itself.

Paolo Vitelli was there in person to receive the very first Boatbuilder Award for Lifetime Achievement sponsored by Sleipner, and he was joined in the winners’ circle by Monte Carlo Yachts, which picked up the Innovation in a Production Process award sponsored by Whale. Dominator was named winner of the Retail Marketing Award sponsored by Saltwater for its Ilumen Virtual Reality system, while Galeon Yachts and the ‘beach mode’ on its new 500 Fly was named winner of the Innovative On-Board Design Solution category sponsored by Fusion.

Brunswick Marine EMEA’s expansion of its Quicksilver line outside of Europe earned it the podium spot in the Boat Builder International Distributor/Dealer Development category sponsored by Lumishore, while Jeanneau and Harken’s three-year collaboration on the Assisted Sail Trim system earned them the Boatbuilder & Equipment Manufacturer Collaborative Solution award, sponsored by Ultraflex.
