Boat Builder & Equipment Manufacturer Collaborative Solution Award
Three boatbuilders and three equipment manufacturers have made the final shortlist for the Boat Builder & Equipment Manufacturer Collaborative Solution Award sponsored by Ultraflex, one of six award categories in this year’s inaugural Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement, due to take place at a gala dinner during METSTRADE on November 18th.
A three-year collaborative effort between Jeanneau and Harken to re-imagine cruising and shorthand sailing resulting in the development of Assisted Sail Trim (AST) was among the three partnerings that particularly caught the eye of judges. The system, consisting of three OEM packages, is designed to contribute to a relaxing day out on the water by offering sensor-guided, push-button sail handling control.
The judges were similarly impressed by Maxwell Marine’s development responding to a request from Baltic Yachts to create a flush-fitting 4,500lb-pull retractable capstan weighing in at just 60kg which will now go into general production.
The final standout pairing was between UK boatbuilder Fairline and its supplier Falcon. Following a feasibility study back in 2011, and substantial investment and research, the two firms have managed to crack the considerable engineering feat of creating double curvature ‘3D’ acrylic windows – allowing the production boat builder to fit frameless windows to any of its hull forms. The windows now feature on Fairline’s new Targa 53GT express cruiser which was launched in September.
The winner of the Boatbuilder & Equipment Manufacturer Collaborative Solution Award will be announced with other category winners at the gala dinner at the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam on the night of November 18th.
