Dura Composites are 3 Times Winners of the King's Award for Enterprise

The sun made a very welcome appearance for the day, and the team were joined by guests from Essex County Council and Tendring District Council. Proceedings kicked off with the presentation of the Grant of Appointment and commemorative trophy, followed by music, a hog roast and an open bar – the Dura team know how to celebrate in style!

As you may remember hearing at the time, we were notified of our award win in the Innovation category on May 6th, for our patented GRP grating series, d², which boasts incredible structural performance using less embodied carbon. We’ve also won two previous Queen’s Awards, in 2017 and 2020.

Leading the speeches, Stuart Burns, our Managing Director shared a few words:

“When we talk about innovation, of course we’re talking about new products, but for us it’s also about being open to new ideas and fresh ways of thinking, staying curious, and always looking for better ways to do things. And it’s that mindset that’s helped us create something truly groundbreaking with our d² Dura Grating.

“Since launching d² Grating, we’ve saved over 1.3m kg of raw materials – and compared to the industry’s standard grating, that’s meant cutting nearly 5m kg of embodied carbon. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of planting over 700,000 trees and letting them grow for a decade.

“As we look ahead we want to keep pushing boundaries, challenging ourselves and striving to deliver solutions that are safer, stronger, greener, and always driven by purpose.”

d² Dura Grating Mini Mesh

Available in popular and efficient panel sizes of 3007×1027 and 4027x1267mm, the 30mm Mini Mesh range comes in Green, Grey, Dark Grey and Sand to suit a wide range of environments. As with the entire Mini Mesh range, the 13mm open hole size meets requirements of the European Ball Fall tests, and it still maintains a 900mm span on 1.5Kn point load at L/100.

d² Dura Grating is a patented GRP grating series designed, developed and available exclusively from Dura Composites and is known for its safer, stronger, greener and proven attributes. The market-leading design has advanced anti-slip properties and is anti-corrosive, making it ideally suited to the harsh conditions of ports, marinas, commercial shipping, aquaculture, piers and promenades.

State-of-the-art composition ensures maximum safety tested to over one million footfalls. As well as its small hole size, safety features and excellent strength-to-weight ratio, d² 30mm Mini Mesh uses 17.33% less embodied carbon than the 30mm grating available elsewhere in the industry, making it a sustainable choice.

The d² GRP Mini Mesh range is also available in sizes of 23mm, 35mm, 45mm and 55mm. A 30mm Mini Mesh product was available as part of the previous grating range several years ago, but has now been design-engineered for maximum performance and efficiency as part of the exclusive d² product range.
