Ramtech and LGM team up to increase shipyard safety

by Nicholas Mogford-Revess21 August 20254 min read

LGM Products and Ramtech Electronics have partnered to improve safety in shipyards by deploying Ramtech’s WES3 wireless fire detection system. Designed for temporary and dynamic environments, WES3 offers rapid deployment, flexibility, and reliable protection in harsh marine conditions. The system includes manual call points, heat detectors, and medical alert features, all wirelessly connected for easy installation and scalability. This collaboration aims to reduce fire risks and enhance worker safety during shipbuilding and maintenance operations.

LGM Products is pleased to announce a new strategic partnership with Ramtech Electronics to provide temporary fire detection solutions to vessels and shipyards worldwide.

Who are Ramtech Electronics?
Ramtech Electronics, a Nottingham-based company founded in 1990, specialises in innovative wireless technology solutions for the construction, industrial, and leisure sectors.

Now part of Halma plc, Ramtech delivers IoT-enabled systems such as wireless fire and emergency alarms primarily used during construction and maintenance work.

Their EN54 part 25 compliant WES product range is a market-leading wireless fire and emergency alarm system designed specifically for construction sites, industrial properties, and temporary buildings.

Ramtech’s WES fire detection system is ideal for construction and temporary sites
Ramtech’s partnership with LGM Products
LGM Products’ strategic partnership with Ramtech Electronics expands its presence in the shipyard and dry dock sector.

By combining Ramtech’s innovative wireless fire and emergency systems, with LGM’s marine-approved detection technologies and industry expertise, the collaboration aims to deliver comprehensive, compliant safety solutions tailored to the unique challenges of shipbuilding and repair environments.

This partnership would also leverage LGM’s established marine network and regulatory knowledge to accelerate market entry and drive joint innovation in safety system integration.

Nic Mogford-Revess, Director of Strategic Growth at LGM commented; ‘We are very excited about our partnership with Ramtech. It will amplify our impact across the marine sector by offering approved fire detection solutions across construction, repair and retrofit activities for shipyards – Increasing site safety in a very dangerous environment. We have a very strong reputation within the marine fire safety sector and this partnership will further our product scope. Ramtech’s WES technology will present exciting new opportunities.’

The benefits of Ramtech for the marine market
Ramtech’s WES system is highly beneficial for shipyards and dry docks due to the unique safety challenges and harsh environments these sites present. Here’s why:

1. Wireless Flexibility

Shipyards and dry docks are constantly changing as vessels move in and out. WES’s wireless, battery-powered units can be rapidly deployed, repositioned, or expanded without the need for fixed wiring. Ideal for temporary or evolving layouts such as in ship building and repair.

2. Harsh Environment Resilience

Shipyards and dry docks environments are areas that often involve dust, moisture, and heavy machinery.

WES units are built to withstand tough industrial conditions, including dust-resistant smoke detectors and rugged IP rated enclosures.

3. Enhanced Safety Monitoring

With fire, medical, and evacuation alerts, WES ensures rapid response to emergencies in large, noisy, and complex spaces where traditional alarms might be ineffective or unheard.

This is particularly relevant within ships where access and bulkheads can make safety monitoring extremely challenging.

4. Remote Oversight

Using the REACT platform, safety managers can monitor multiple zones or vessels remotely, receive real-time alerts, and maintain compliance logs; especially useful for large-scale operations or multi-site management such as those found at shipyards.

5. Compliance and Insurance

WES is EN54-25 compliant, helping shipyards meet fire safety regulations and potentially reduce insurance premiums by demonstrating proactive risk management.
