Northern Light Composites

Designed by Guelfi & D'Angeli, the Offshore 34 is a boat set up to race, not to make a point. Hull, deck and structural components are laminated in rComposite®, a thermoplastic composite of acrylic resin with glass and recycled carbon fibres, over recycled and bio-based cores.

What makes it relevant to the wider industry is how it is built. rComposite® is processed by standard vacuum infusion, on standard tooling, at room temperature: no autoclave, no ovens, no new capital equipment. Hull and deck are joined with a structural adhesive chemically compatible with the matrix, so the finished boat stays within a single recyclable material family.

Recyclability is verified, not asserted. nlcomp's recyclability claim is certified against ISO 14021:2016 by DNV, and the end-of-life route has been demonstrated industrially with Composite Recycling (Switzerland): parts are dissolved to recover clean structural fibres and a monomer-rich oil, both reusable as feedstock.

Hull and deck were laminated and bonded during 2026 at the rFactory, inaugurated in July 2026. The boat is scheduled to start her first offshore season in 2027.

The shortlisting follows another recognition this autumn: in October 2026 nlcomp won the UNIDO–WTCA Global Call 2026 in Rome, in the Green Maritime Transport & Smart Ports category, with rComposite®.
