J1939 Doctor from Digital Yacht

The J1939 protocol is increasingly being adopted in marine applications, providing monitoring and control for engines, propulsion systems, generators, and electrical networks. To support this trend, a self-contained J1939 diagnostics tool has been developed, featuring a built-in web interface that allows any device with a browser to connect and analyze data seamlessly. With wireless connectivity to mobile devices, users can access critical information from anywhere on the vessel without the need for physical connections.

This diagnostics tool not only monitors the J1939 network but also checks its physical characteristics, including voltages, bus load, and frame errors. Users can view all devices connected to the network and drill down into specific data for detailed analysis. Its flexibility is enhanced by an M12 connector, which supports a wide variety of third-party patch cables and breakouts, making it compatible with diverse setups.

Easily monitor and manage device fault codes with our user-friendly interface. Click the Fault (Red Cross) icon to view active and historical codes in a clear pop-up. The DM1 Table displays the currently active fault codes, while the DM2 Table provides a record of historical faults.

If a fault condition remains active after clearing, the system automatically detects and displays it again during the next PGN transmission, ensuring you always have accurate, up-to-date diagnostic information at your fingertips.

iKreate NMEA 2000 Simulator

For anyone involved in designing, manufacturing or installing marine electronics, the ability to simulate or replay NMEA2000 data is a real advantage and can accelerate software development, demonstrate NMEA2000 devices or help diagnose network issues.
With more and more modern boats having an NMEA2000 network at the heart of their navigation system, it is really important that you have the tools to investigate the devices and data on the network should things not work as planned.

Just like the Digital Yacht NMEA2000 Display App, the new iKreate Simulator takes a new approach and is the World’s first multi-platform, browser based NMEA2000 Simulator App that will run on Windows, LINUX, Mac OSX and Raspbian. There is no installation and if you can save a file and find it again, then that is as complex as it gets with just a single HTML5 file to worry about.

NET Protect - Now with Garmin OneHelm Compatability

With more technically advanced, integrated and “connected” boats, security becomes a major concern on NMEA 2000 networks.  Recent high profile automotive hacks have highlighted security weaknesses in some CAN based systems.

The NMEA Organisation have responded to this threat by establishing a Cyber Security Working Group to identify and mitigate the risks of maritime attacks.  NET Protect is the World’s first cyber security product, focused on NMEA 2000, to be developed as part of this NMEA initiative and Digital Yacht have now added Garmin OneHelm connectivity so Garmin MFD users can constantly monitor their onboard NMEA 2000 network and receive alerts of any inconsistencies.  It also has valuable tools for the installer for configuration and diagnostics.
 
NET Protect is a self-contained, bus powered, unobtrusive black box that receives and analyses all NMEA 2000 network data.  It has three key functions – to test and validate the NMEA 2000 network during installation, tools for NMEA 2000 configuration and network monitoring/analysis and then on-going, 24/7 monitoring and protection for the life of the vessel.  Data can be accessed via any mobile device as it incorporates a wireless web interface and now also on your boat’s helm through a Garmin MFD.

NET Protect carries out device certification, network topography and general tests including looking for duplicate PGNs, device instances, devices outputting no data and gateway validation.  Even device names and firmware version are recorded.  At a physical level, LEN (the bus load) is calculated for all devices on the network.

Once the installation tests are complete and the installer is happy with network performance, the CANshot option is run.  This “snapshots” the network and stores the results internally.  This report can also be saved and printed – useful for future diagnostics and also insurance purposes.

NET Protect then enters 24/7 monitor mode and will alert audibly and also store alerts in an event log for analysis.  If connected to a Digital Yacht 4GX or 5GX system, optional SMS alerts can be enabled for remote monitoring.  Alerts pop up on a Garmin connected device and the OneHelm interface allows access to the Net Protect GUI.

Bilge iQ from Digital Yacht

A humble electric bilge pump is installed on just about every boat but boat owners don’t know much about its operation and run times – or even if it is still functional.  Bilge iQ from Digital Yacht aims to change this and brings the latest NMEA 2000 and Wi-Fi monitoring plus digital switching control technology to any electric bilge pump.

Bilge iQ fits in minutes to existing systems which may incorporate a standard ON-OFF-AUTO panel (with an integrated float switch) or to any manual system.  It also connects to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network so a multi-function display can use standard switching commands to turn the pump on and off and also display the pump’s status or fault based on an industry standard NMEA 2000 pop up alert. It also integrates with Victron’s Cerbo GX systems and VRM cloud monitoring solution so remote monitoring of your boat becomes possible through Victron’s free to access platform.

It has a wireless interface enabling a phone or tablet to connect and display a history of pump operations. Actual current draw of the pump is also displayed in real time to show the pump is operating correctly. Standard 	NMEA 2000 alerts allow for remote monitoring too.

Should you choose to add a 3rd party bilge water discharge filter to your system to ensure oil, debris and contaminants are not discharged over-board, then Bilge iQ provides accurate pump run time data to allow economic and periodic filter replacement for correct operation.  

Bilge iQ was awarded Best New Product 2025 when launched at the NMEA Conference in West Palm Beach, October 2025 and is also nominated for a DAME Design Award at METS 2025
