Passive soot filter systems set new standard

by MarQuip15 October 20252 min read

While MarQuip serves a global clientele and many of the world’s leading yachts, it is always a pleasure to work on projects with famous yards close to home in the Netherlands. A fine example is the recent project for a top Dutch sailing boat builder for whom we delivered an ultra-compact and easy-to-maintain passive soot filter. The work was successfully completed together with one of our expert partners in after-treatment systems, further showcasing the benefits of knowing the right people for the right job.

And there are many more such projects on the horizon due to the growing prominence of hybrid solutions. More clients are recognising the benefits of relatively small (<130 bkW), high-powered and warm generators. Passive fully customised soot filters systems are becoming the new norm in aftertreatment systems, complete with noise-reduction capabilities. Exhaust temperatures of over 320°C and diesel fuel with < 15ppm sulphur are mandatory for these kinds of systems to work well.

The compact size of our tailor-made designs enables MarQuip experts to place these units in the restricted real estate that is the engine rooms of sailing yachts. Our smart passive solutions also score highly in terms of simplicity, installation/service costs and total cost of ownership compared to active (burner/heater) competitors.
